LONG ESTABLISHED
Over 35 years clay shooting
Glen Bank Gun Club held its first shoot in 1980 on the banks of the River Glen south of Bourne. Hence the name! Two years later the club moved to its present site, courtesy of the late Nelson Green, who owned the land in question. Instead of rent he suggested the club should make donations to nominated charities, many of which were local. Over the years the club has raised more than £40,000. This arrangement continues today through his son Stephen.
The ground is situated on the south-east corner of the old Folkingham airfield, near the village of Aslackby. And there is hard standing (the old runway) on all stands – absolutely no mud!
There is both a lot of enthusiasm and experience, and the committee members make a great effort to ensure each fortnightly shoot is an enjoyable but fair challenge, to be enjoyed by all levels of ability. Newcomers are made especially welcome. And the club has its own classification system, so everyone has a chance of a trophy.
Some of the stands are in the open whilst others make use of a tree backdrop which includes the popular 60ft high tower, installed by members in the 80s.
